Q + A

I’m traveling from outside of Chicago, when should I arrive?

We're kicking things off on Friday Oct 31 evening, so please plan to arrive by Friday afternoon at the latest.

We're coming in from out of town, where should we stay?

We have reserved a special wedding room block at the Chicago Marriott Downtown Magnificent Mile, where the Wedding and Reception will be. Please see the Travel tab for the room block link and additional details. We encourage booking as soon as possible!

Is parking available?

If you are driving to Chicago Marriott Downtown Magnificent Mile, valet and self-parking are available.

Self-Parking is available at a discounted rate of $35/day at ROW parking garage, located at 50 E Ohio Street, just across the street from Marriott. Present your ticket at check-in to receive discounted rate.

Valet parking is available for $76/day. Enter through at 541 N Rush Street.

WHAT TYPE OF TRANSPORTATION WILL BE PROVIDED FOR THE EVENTS?

For the Sangeet on Friday, Oct 31st evening, we will be providing shuttles to and from the event, departing from the Chicago Marriott Downtown Magnificent Mile hotel. The Wedding and Reception will both be at the hotel, so no transportation is required if you are staying on property.

Can I bring a guest?

If you received a +1 invitation, we’re excited to have your guest join us! If you’re unsure about your invitation, feel free to reach out to us at aakashpriyankakothari@gmail.com, and we’ll be happy to clarify.

Can I bring my kids?

While we love your kiddos, we are only including children from our families. We hope this advance notice allows our friends with little ones to arrange for childcare and enjoy a weekend celebrating with us.

What weather should I expect?

Well, last year it was a high of roughly 70 F, with it being a cool 50 at night. The year before that, it was a lot colder.

All to say, despite not knowing exactly what to expect, we are crossing our fingers for a warmer fall!

Are the events indoors or outdoors?

A mix. The Sangeet Event on Friday evening is at Rockwell on the River, which has both an outdoor patio to enjoy weather permitting, in addition to an indoor reception space where food, music and dancing will be hosted.

For the Wedding, the only portion that will be outdoors will be for the Groom's side on Saturday morning for the Baraat procession. Both the Wedding Ceremony and Cocktail Hour/Reception will be indoors.

What is the dress code?

For the Sangeet and Wedding, the dress code is Western Formal or Indian Formal—think sarees, lehengas, sherwanis, or suits, dresses. For the Reception, the attire is also Western Formal or Indian Formal, with Black Tie Optional.

We have no preference for what you choose to wear. Our preference is that you are comfortable and are there to celebrate, most importantly!

I'd like to wear Indian clothes, what styles should I consider?

Wearing Indian clothes to any of our events is completely optional! Please do not feel any pressure to buy anything new for our wedding. We have a fully mixed wedding, so please feel free to wear whatever will make you feel your best. That said, if you are interested, here's what to look out for --

FOR WOMEN

Lengha: Crop top and a long skirt. Easy to wear and not a lot of fuss (fun and creative)

Sari: Crop top with a million yards of fabric draped around you. This is not for the faint of heart. If you want to go this route, look for pre-drape options (traditional and elegant)

Salwar Kameez: Medium-long top paired with fitted or loose pants (comfortable and versatile)

FOR MEN

Kurta: Long, loose-fitting shirt/tunic with pants that are typically fitted at the ankle (comfortable and versatile)

Sherwani: Formal, knee-length jacket (elegant and stylish)
